She was born on the family farm in Washington Twp, Holmes Co and grew up there probably attending Germany School.

Obituary:
Mrs. Alice M. Stitzlein, 95, of 624 E. Main St., Loudonville, died early today (Thursday) at Colonial Nursing Home.
Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Banks-Byerly Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Richard Freseman. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday until time of service.
The daughter of Henry and Mary Velton Young, she was born Sept. 17, 1880 in Holmes County and had lived in the Loudonville area all of her live. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Women of Zion.
She is survived by a son, Clyde of Glenmont RD 1; three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Thomas of Loudonville, Mrs. Helen Workman of Kansas City, Mo. and Edna Stitzlein of Akron; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, George W., died Sept. 24, 1949.

Catharina Magdalena (Lena) Bross was born in Herrinburg Wurtemburg
Germany and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Herrinburg. She
emigrated to America with her parents, Immanuel Gottlob and Anna Maria
Walz Bross, and two brothers Christian Gottlobb and Gottlieb Friedrich.
Her father was a stadtsschafer (herder for the village who took their
cattle and sheep into the Black Forest for pasture) and her brothers
became farmers. The family settled on a farm near Greer. Lena had a
beautiful voice and belonged to a singing society in her village. She
often talked of the fun she had in songfests with other nearby villages
in Germany. She used to read in her Bible after supper dishes were done
. When the light got too dim to read she would sing for a while. When
they lived in Loudonville I used to enjoy going to their home and sit on
the porch, without disturbing her, just to hear her sing.
